The Jungle Explorer

Bukit Lawang sits at the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the last places on Earth where wild orangutans roam free. Unlike the staged encounters found at some wildlife parks, here you're walking through genuine primary rainforest with licensed ITGA guides who have spent decades learning every tree, call and trail.

The jungle trek is the centrepiece — a full day threading through cathedral-roofed forest, eyes up for the rustle of branches that signals an orangutan overhead. Gibbons, Thomas leaf monkeys and hornbills are regular sightings. Lunch is cooked in the jungle itself.

The trip bookends with Medan — an evening food tour on arrival to prime your palate, and a lazy morning before your flight home. In between, you'll tube down the Bohorok River on the second trek day — one of those afternoons that stays with you for years.
